ZAMMSA ATTAINS 70% DRUG AVALABILITY STANDARD

The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has attained the World Health Organization (WHO) benchmark of 70% drugs availability at the central warehouse.
This achievement is a direct response to ZAMMSA’s three-pronged procurement strategy of firstly the Mop-up exercise, Secondly the 28,200 Health Centre kits received so far, and thirdly the Government to Government, Bulk procurement from the UPA of Egypt coupled with procurements from the cooperating partners such as the UN agencies and Global Fund.
Through the diversification and streamlining of our procurement processes, we have effectively reinforced the medicines and medical supplies availability levels at central warehouse level, thereby consolidating the overall healthcare infrastructure in Zambia.
In terms of distribution, the Agency has now successfully distributed 100% of medicines and medical supplies from the Mop-Up exercises to all facilities in Lusaka and Southern Provinces while other provinces are still receiving their portion of the commodities.
The three-pronged strategy of the procuring and distributing essential medical commodities is a clear indication of ZAMMSA’s quest to be a world class supply chain of medicines and medical supplies for a healthy and productive Zambia.
