       Office of the Director General

The Director General is responsible for overseeing the agency’s operations, ensuring the efficient management and distribution of medicines and medical supplies across Zambia. The Director General leads strategic planning, ensures compliance with health regulations, manages resources, and represents ZAMMSA in dealings with government bodies, international organizations, and stakeholders. Their role is crucial in enhancing the cou ntry’s healthcare system by ensuring the availability and accessibility of essential medicines and supplies.

Warehouse & Distribution

The Warehousing and Distribution Directorate ensures the efficient and effective delivery of medicines and medical supplies across the country. This department is responsible for the storage, management, and distribution of medicines and medical supplies to healthcare facilities nationwide. ZAMMSA has High grade pharmaceutical warehouses that are ZAMRA certified with 32,000 pharmaceutical storage pallet spaces at the central warehouse. The Agency has cold rooms with the Lusaka Central warehouse Cold room pallet space standing at 600 with temperatures ranging from 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. The Agency operates in seven regional hubs dotted across the country in Mansa, Mpika, Chipata, Choma, Mongu, Kabompo, Luanshya

Supply Planning Directorate

The Supply Planning Directorate is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective management of the procurement, and availability of medicines and medical supplies throughout Zambia. The specific mandates of this directorate include forecasting, quantification, Data Management and reporting on supply chain performance to inform decision-making and policy development. Developing and implementing procurement plans to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of medicines and medical supplies.

Procurement Directorate

The ZAMMSA procurement department prioritizes the quality and safety of medicines and medical supplies it procures. ZAMMSA’s procurement process is designed to ensure the efficient and effective acquisition of medical supplies and medicines. The Directorate is mandated to, Ensuring Quality and Compliance. The main mandate of this directorate is to stabilize the national stock position for medicines and medical supplies in line with the Government policy of improving the health status of the people of Zambia by providing equitable access to cost-effective and quality health services. By maintaining a robust procurement system, ZAMMSA aims to support the healthcare needs of Zambia and ensure the availability of essential medicines and medical supplies throughout the country.

Legal Directorate

The Legal Directorate holds a critical mandate to ensure the agency operates within the bounds of legal and regulatory frameworks. The Legal Directorate plays an essential role in supporting ZAMMSA’s mission to provide quality medicines and medical supplies to the Zambian population, ensuring that all operations are conducted legally and ethically. The key responsibilities include Compliance and Regulatory Oversight, Legal Advisory Services, the Directorate provides legal advice to the agency’s management and departments on various issues, including contracts, agreements, and partnerships, Dispute Resolution and Litigation, Policy Development and Implementation.

Finance & Commercial Directorate

The mandate of the Finance Directorate typically involves several key responsibilities and objectives aimed at ensuring the financial stability and accountability of the Agency. The Finance Directorate plays a critical role in supporting ZAMMSA’s mission to ensure the availability and accessibility of essential medicines and medical supplies in Zambia by maintaining sound financial management practices.

These responsibilities can include Financial Planning and Budgeting, Financial Management and Reporting, Resource Allocation and Cost Control, Audit and Compliance, Procurement and Asset Management and Financial Risk Management.

Internal Controls Directorate

The mandate of the Internal Controls Directorate is essential to ensuring effective and efficient operations, safeguarding assets, and ensuring the reliability of financial and operational information. The Internal Controls Directorate plays a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity, transparency, and efficiency of ZAMMSA’s operations. The directorate is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and evaluating risks that could impact ZAMMSA’s operations. This involves regular risk assessments and developing strategies to mitigate identified risks, ensuring that the agency can achieve its objectives without significant disruptions.
